APEL Education is a nonprofit organization registered as 501(c)(3) status that offers educational services dedicated to empowering and improving underprivileged individual performance with the key competencies needed to overcome barriers and succeed personal, academic, and employment goal setting.

The mission of APEL Education is to provide quality educational services that support student learning and empower students to achieve success.

Core Purpose & Values

To cultivate a passion for lifelong learning in the communities we serve by giving our clients access to the information and tools necessary to enrich lives.

Our organization has taken the approach that seeks to offer such services as tutorial programs, Parent Education, Scholarships, serve and engage adult learners with personalized learning pathways powered by skills, Summer Programs, and provide Professional Development and learning opportunities to help individuals develop new skills, stay-up-to-date on current trends, and advance in their career.

APEL provides 1:1 or group sessions.

Our Team

Founder/Executive Director

LaShonda E. Pelzer 


LaShonda E. Reid Pelzer is a veteran educator with over 25 years of experience in Elementary Education.  Mrs. Pelzer has also taught and facilitated several Extended Learning Programs (21st Century Afterschool Program, After and Summer School Programs, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math Programs).  Mrs. Pelzer  currently works as a School Facilitator.  Mrs. Pelzer holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston.  She continued her education to earn a Master of Education Degree from Charleston Southern University and an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy University.  She also has the Gifted & Talented and Read 2 Succeed Literacy Endorsement.  Mrs. Pelzer enjoys working with the elderly and youth and has learned, from both groups, that learning and development is a continuous process.  She is also a Sunday School Teacher for the youth at Antioch H. Church.  Her Educational Philosophy and favorite educational quote is from George Evans, “Every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way.”  Mrs. Pelzer is the youngest of four children born to Jessie and Virginia Reid.  She enjoys spending time with her husband, Arthur Pelzer, Jr. and family during her spare time.
